In a community of plenty, it is difficult to realize that every night in San Mateo County hundreds of impoverished men and women sleep outdoors, huddled against the elements. SVdP reaches out to individuals and families with connections to temporary shelter, respite from suffering, and tools to break the cycle of homelessness. Services Assist with work-readiness needs such as clothing, uniforms, work boots, union dues, and job referrals. Provide emergency medical assistance, substance abuse center fees, and referrals to mental health and other resources. Distribute vouchers to County shelters—and sleeping bags when shelters are full. Benefits Struggling individuals cut off from family and friends meet people who care. Homeless people seeking employment have access to telephone, mail, and other assistance. Working homeless struggling to survive on a minimum wage receive clean clothing and support to keep going. Those needing medical, addiction or mental health services can get help.
